Christine Cooper successful in claiming damages in the High Court

Christine Cooper successfully represented the parents who brought a claim against the London Borough of Hackney for the unlawful accommodation of their Children in foster care.

The case involved the removal of 8 children following a police order however the family believed that the Local Authority had been wrong to keep the children in authority controlled foster care after the expiry of the effect of the police order.

SIR ROBERT FRANCIS QC in his judgment commented: “If ever there was a case illustrating the challenges that face children, parents, public authorities, and the courts when concerns are raised about the safety and welfare of children it is this.”

Sir Robert awarded £10,000 to each parent.
