Anna Dannreuther represents successful claimants in employment case concerning whistleblowing and gig economy/worker status

28 May 2021

Anna Dannreuther acted for 2 delivery drivers who successfully brought proceedings against their former employer, a well-known white goods distributor. The 2 claimants had been dismissed after they reported the unsafe condition of the vehicles provided by their employer and had refused to drive them.

The case considered important employment issues related to the gig economy.

In the Employment Tribunal, Anna was successful on the claimants’ behalf on all points before the tribunal. These were:

  • were the drivers ‘workers’?
  • were they dismissed because they whistleblew?
  • should the respondents pay the claimants’ costs due to unreasonable conduct?

The tribunal awarded £4,400 to Anna’s clients and made a  £6,900 costs order against the respondents.
