Savannah Laurent focuses on family law (both private and public law children proceedings), Court of Protection and property cases.

She regularly appears in the High Court and in late 2023 acted as a junior to Francis Hoar in the Court of Appeal.

Savannah understands that clients can find legal proceedings to be daunting, and works hard to ensure that all clients feel able to participate in every step. Clients find Savannah to be approachable and responsive.

Family

Savannah has a strong practice in family law.

She regularly represents local authorities, parents and Children’s Guardians at all stages of care proceedings up to and including final hearing, and has significant experience of cases involving allegations of non-accidental injury.

Savannah is experienced in cases involving deprivation of liberty (DoLs) for children, and secure accommodation orders, as well as cases with an international aspect.

Examples of recent cases:

  • A Local Authority v EF & Ors [2023] EWFC 178 – Savannah represented the local authority in consolidated public and private law proceedings. She secured 21 findings against the mother and a s.91 (14) order preventing her making further applications without the court’s permission.
  • Acted for father in a non-accidental injury case, in which the expert recommended further medical investigation midway through his evidence.
  • Represented the mother in 11-day non-accidental injury fact find, avoided a finding of domestic abuse.

Property

Savannah accepts instructions to advise and represent clients across the full range of property law matters, from initial enquiry through to final hearing. She regularly acts for clients in landlord and tenant matters, TOLATA claims and boundary disputes, and is developing a practice in disrepair and leasehold enfranchisement.

Examples of recent cases:

• Successfully defended multi-track possession proceedings on behalf of an elderly client who had become involved in a fraudulent equity release scheme
• Achieved a late-stage settlement of an adverse possession claim in favour of claimant client through extensive negotiation
• Instructed in ongoing proceedings, in which complex issues of validity of notices, constructive trusts, and proprietary estoppel arise

Court of Protection & community care

Savannah has a busy Court of Protection practice. She regularly acts in s.21 Mental Capacity Act challenges and in health and welfare cases.

She has experience of matters concerning deprivation of liberty, residence, and social and health care.

Savannah also advises families, attorneys and local authorities in relation to care home fees, and duties under Lasting Power of Attorneys.
