Henry Pargeter’s practises in family law and housing law.

He acts in both public law and private law children proceedings. He also takes on financial remedies applications and non-molestation cases.

He is experienced in representing vulnerable individuals, including parents with addiction or mental health difficulties, and those facing serious allegations of domestic abuse.

Henry has appeared in cases before Circuit Judges and in the High Court. He is adept at handling complex evidence and is commended for his measured advocacy and careful preparation.

Henry is also an associate university lecturer teaching civil litigation.

Henry is a qualified direct access barrister and is able to accept instructions from members of the public within his specialist areas.

Public children law

Henry has a busy public law children practice. He acts for parents, family members, local authorities and children’s guardians in the full range of care and supervision proceedings.

His experience includes cases involving:

  • allegations of serious non-accidental injury, neglect, and emotional harm
  • substance misuse, domestic abuse, and mental health issues
  • applications for interim and final care or supervision orders
  • emergency protection orders (including forced marriage protection orders and orders under the Hague Convention) and
  • secure accommodation applications

Private children law

Henry has considerable expertise in all areas of private children law. He represents parents, guardians and children in disputes under s.8 Children Act 1989. His practice covers:

  • child arrangements and specific issue applications
  • complex relocation (national and international)
  • fact-finding hearings involving allegations of domestic abuse
  • enforcement and prohibited steps applications

He has particular experience in multi-day final hearings and cases requiring sensitive cross-examination. Henry combines firmness in advocacy with a constructive approach to settlement, encouraging workable, long-term arrangements for children.

Notable cases:

  • AF (A Father) v AM (A Mother) [2023] EWFC 153 (B) (30 August 2023)- Henry acted for the successful respondent mother in relocation proceedings concerning 3 young children. The mother had made allegations of abuse against the children’s father.

Housing law

Henry has previously worked in the housing department of a national solicitors’ firm. He accepts instructions in all areas of housing law, including possession, homelessness and disrepair matters.
