Nikolas Clarke on panel of speakers at CIPD Festival of Work: How do we manage work-life balance and productivity, while tackling burnout?

12 June 2025

As part of CIPD’s annual Festival of Work conference (Wednesday 11-Thursday 12 June) employment law barrister Nikolas Clarke will speak on a panel discussing how to manage work-life balance and productivity, while tackling the burnout problem.

Flexible working is an essential part of working life for many employees, but since the pandemic, lines between work and personal life have become even more blurred. The panel discusses:

  • would legislation help employees with work-life balance?
  • would the ‘right to switch off’, have been a help or a hindrance for businesses?
  • how can work life balance tackle the burnout problem?
  • is 'always on' culture good or bad for business or managers?

Nikolas will consider how law or policy can be translated into practice and tackle key questions such as: is law enough? And: how can we change cultures and attitudes to work- life balance?

The Festival of Work will take place at London’s Excel Centre.
