Francis Hoar appeared in the High Court today on behalf of GP Dr Samuel White. Dr White was appealing an order of the General Medical Council banning him from discussing the Covid-19 pandemic on social media.
The GMC placed conditions on Dr White's registration as a GP following a tribunal in August after he was accused of spreading "misinformation" about the pandemic on social media.
Dr White claims the GMC’s 18 month ban is a restriction of his freedom of speech.
Judgment is expected later this month.
In July, Francis wrote a 50-page legal report considering current protections for freedom of expression under English law. Former Supreme Court judge and historian Lord Sumption wrote the foreword to the publication.
