Dr Martina van der Leij acts as junior counsel in care proceedings for mother whose children contracted gonorrhoea in her care

Dr Martina van der Leij, led by Anna McKenna KC, acted for a mother in care proceedings concerning 3 children who had contracted gonorrhoea while in their mother’s care. Using her microbiology research background, Martina analysed the medical records and assisted in drafting detailed questions to experts to crystallise the issues in dispute. The court ruled that the children be returned to their mother’s care.

For the 2nd year running, our family law barristers are on the Child Abduction Lawyers’ Association pro bono duty advocate rota. The CALA duty advocates scheme aims to advise and assist litigants in person in international cases in the High Court (which generally involve child abduction).

Dr Martina van der Leij acts for paternal grandparents granted special guardianship order

Dr Martina van der Leij represented the paternal grandparents who were granted a special guardianship order for their 6-month-old grandson. Previously they had been included in the list of possible perpetrators of serious injuries inflicted on the baby.

Family law group on Child Abduction Lawyers’ Association pro bono duty advocate scheme for September

Our family law barristers have joined the Child Abduction Lawyers’ Association pro bono duty advocate rota. Accordingly during the month of September, the scheme’s volunteer duty solicitors will be able to refer relevant cases to us. The CALA duty advocates scheme aims to advise and assist litigants in person in international cases in the High Court. Generally cases involve child abduction.
