Planning and public law mentoring scheme for underrepresented groups at the Bar – celebrating our 2nd year

31 October 2022

We are very pleased to welcome our second intake of students on the planning and public law mentoring scheme for underrepresented groups at the Bar. For 2022-2023, we have 4 mentees who we will mentor until June next year.

Mentees receive:

  • one-to-one meetings with a mentor
  • a workshop on applications for pupillage
  • one or more social events with mentors and other mentees (subject to Covid 19 restrictions).
Background to the scheme

The scheme aims to encourage undergraduates and postgraduates from groups not well represented at the bar to consider becoming barristers. These underrepresented groups include women, people from minority ethnic backgrounds and those from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.

The initiative launched in 2021. It is now a partnership between our chambers and 5 other sets: Cornerstone Barristers, Falcon Chambers, Francis Taylor Building, Kings Chambers and Landmark Chambers and supported by the Planning and Environmental Bar Association (PEBA).

PEBA and each of the partner sets recognise the importance of driving equality and diversity in the Bar.

Jared Norman coordinates the scheme for Field Court Chambers.
