Supporting Action for Children in 2025

03 February 2025

We are pleased that Action for Children continues to be our chosen charity to support in 2025.

Action for Children’s London Advocacy Service

Many of our barristers volunteer with Action for Children‘s London Advocacy Service. They offer pro bono advice and training to the non-legally trained advocates who work with young people in contact with social services. Their advice covers topics such as community care and housing law.

“I am so thankful for your involvement because I had not realised… the key issue to challenge”

Tony Harrop- Griffiths advised an advocate about a complaint she had raised to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman that they decided not to investigate.  This was a complaint about a local authority’s handling of care for a 6-year-old child.

Acting on Tony’s guidance, the advocate presented new evidence to the Ombudsman and asked for the complaint to be reviewed. The Ombudsman has subsequently agreed to reopen the complaint with the local authority.

Fundraising

In 2024, we donated through a range of fundraising activities including a Euros sweepstake challenge, a cheese & wine social and mid-week bake sale.

Over the Christmas period, we took part in Action for Children’s Secret Santa campaign  to raise funds to help provide vulnerable children with the essentials such as warm clothes or a hot meal.

In total, we have raised almost £700.
