Supporting Become in 2026

07 January 2026

Following a vote by barristers and staff, we have chosen to support Become as our chosen charity for 2026. Become supports children and young people in care and after leaving care.

Our charitable support will  include pro bono advice and fundraising throughout the year.

About Become

Become was set up as a charity more than 30 years ago (in 1992).  The charity helps care-experienced young people to know their rights, find a job and access education – with the aim that they have the same chances in life as everyone else.

To do this, Become offers:

  • Care Advice Service (national helpline) – a free confidential advice service for children in care and care leavers.
  • Propel Into Education –  advice, longer-term 1-2-1 support, workshops, and information to support care leavers thinking about further and higher education.
  • Propel Into Work scheme – 1-2-1 support to help a young care leaver to consider different employment options as well as support with CV and interview preparation.

The charity also provides information and training to professionals and carers so they can give the best support to care-experienced young people.

Care system statistics

Become statistics show that there are around 84,000 children in care in England, and that 1 in 3 care-experienced young people become homeless within 2 years of leaving care.

Become’s impact

During 2024/2025 Become:

  • reached 1,858 young people directly through its support and opportunities
  • trained 1000+ professionals
  • through its advocacy and campaigning work helped bring about 15 improvements to the care system.
