Christopher Stirling writes for Counsel magazine: Cohabitation reform long overdue

Little has changed for separating cohabitees since Burns v Burns [1984] 2 WLR 852.

In an article for Counsel magazine. Christopher Stirling argues that law reform is long overdue - government statistics suggest more than 1 in 5 couples living together are not married or in a civil partnership law.

The unsatisfactory situation is set out in more detail in the recent edition of Resolution's Cohabitation Law and Practice Handbook. Christopher and the other authors highlight the current far from straightforward law faced by unmarried cohabitants.
