We are delighted that Madeleine Southey and Harrison Engler are joining us as tenants after completing their pupillage with us.
About Madeleine Southey
Madeleine trained in a range of areas of law, focusing primarily on housing, property, probate and commercial law.
During her pupillage, Madeleine represented the successful claimant in a disability discrimination case in the employment tribunal. Following Madeleine’s submission, the court found that her client’s employer had failed to make reasonable adjustments under s.15 and ss.20-21 of the Equality Act 2010. She also secured an award of £10,000 for her client, for injury to feelings.
Before pupillage, Madeleine volunteered as a helpline adviser for the charity IPSEA, providing legal advice to parents of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
About Harrison Engler
Harrison accepts instructions in all our practice areas. During pupillage, he has focused on family, housing and property law.
He also undertook research on freezing injunctions, committal for contempt, agency and banking law, and appellate costs.
During his second six, Harrison represented pro bono the mother of a child with learning needs in a dispute with the child's father about their daughter's schooling and contact arrangements. The mother expressed her gratitude towards Harrison, stating she ‘could not have coped without Mr Engler’s advocacy’.
Pupil pledge
As pupil barristers, both Madeleine and Harrison completed their first pro bono assignments, fulfilling Advocate’s pupil pledge.
