01 September 2025

LexisNexis Family Law Awards 2025 have shortlisted Joanna Thom for ‘Family law young barrister of the year’. The award recognises barristers under 5 years’ call who have demonstrated that they have the skills and knowledge to become a leading family lawyer of the future.

Although only 4 years’ call (2021 year of call), Joanna has already been led 3 times, including twice in the High Court. Each time she has appeared with a senior junior against silks with juniors and secured favourable results for her client.

In May 2025 in the pro bono case of Re A (Appeal: Findings of fact) [2025] EWHC 1279 (Fam) Joanna and her co-counsel were praised by Mr Justice Hayden:

...[they] have have filleted F’s own discursive and frequently misconceived written arguments and recrafted them skilfully. I have found their help to be invaluable.
