We are proud to have implemented Advocate’s chambers pro bono framework during 2023 and have signed up to the framework for 2024.
By doing so, we confirm our ongoing commitment to pro bono work and to improving access to justice.
As the Bar’s national pro bono charity, Advocate wants to enable every chambers in England and Wales to help address the growing need to support individuals in desperate need of legal assistance, who cannot obtain legal aid or afford counsel.
We had already:
- appointed pro bono champions - our barrister pro bono champion is Lily Cooke, our clerk pro bono champion is deputy senior clerk Mark Townsend
- actioned pro bono work as a chambers - we do this throughout the year
- organised a seminar on pro bono - we host one each year to celebrate Pro Bono Week.
In 2023, we completed the 1 additional action the framework requires that we had not been doing previously: we reported on the pro bono work done.
