What would you like a barrister to help you with?

Select from the following options.
Legal advice

A barrister can provide you with expert legal advice on the strengths, weaknesses, and potential outcomes of your case either verbally or in writing. If afterwards you would like to take legal action, they can also talk you through the steps that you will need to go through to do so.

Representation in a court or tribunal hearing

If you have a court or tribunal hearing date, you can find out if a qualified barrister is available to represent you on it. Please give dates and details of any upcoming hearings when you describe your dispute below.

Help with drafting a legal document

Direct access barristers can help you to draft correspondence, statements from litigants and witnesses, formal court and other legal documents.

Pricing

Our barristers’ hourly rates start from £225. Please bear in mind that what barristers charge will depend on the areas in which they work and their seniority. Also, some types of dispute may last months or even years and require many hours of work by a barrister. See How we charge for our services for more information.

Legal Aid

Barristers are not able to undertake any publicly funded (‘Legal Aid’) work under the direct access scheme, nor can they carry out any means test for you. If you think that you may be eligible for public funding, you can check by completing the Legal Aid Eligibility Calculator.

If you are eligible for legal aid, you can still choose to seek help from a barrister privately, using your own funds, under the direct access scheme. If this is your preference, then you can use the Direct Access Portal to find and instruct a qualified barrister.

Fees covered by insurance

You may be covered for the legal costs of your dispute under an insurance policy, such as a home or motor policy. Please do speak with your insurer before making an enquiry through the Direct Access Portal, as they may already have instructed a solicitor or barrister to help you.
