Our inquest & inquiries barristers act for all parties involved in inquests and in public inquiries into alleged failings by statutory and corporate bodies.

Inquests

We regularly appear in jury and Article 2 inquests.

We act for local authorities, bereaved families, hospital trusts, housing associations and government departments. We combine our expertise in related areas of law such as family, Court of Protection, public/local government and personal injury to deliver comprehensive advice and representation.

Our barristers often advise from a very early stage in the process up to and including advising and appearing in subsequent civil claims or disciplinary proceedings.

One of our team, Angela Hodes has been an Assistant Deputy Coroner for London Inner West since 2011. Another, Nikolas Clarke sat as a fee paid judge of the Mental Health Tribunal and continues to sit as a Deputy District Judge.

Inquiries

Our barristers have a strong track record of appearing in inquiries, both public and private, into alleged failings by statutory and corporate bodies.

Rebecca Handcock was junior counsel to the Home Office in the Brook House Inquiry (into allegations of mistreatment at an immigration removal centre). She is also instructed by the Cabinet Office in the Covid 19 Inquiry (examining the UK’s response to and impact of the Covid-19 pandemic).
