Six of our barristers are named in the 2025 Pro Bono Recognition list of England and Wales, published today. John McLinden KC, Keith Chipato, Max Lansman, Ryan Anderson, Rebecca Davies, and Harrison Engler appear on the list.
Harrison Engler acted for the mother in proceedings where the court applied section 1(3)(f) Children Act 1989 in an unusual way. The mother and all the children had additional needs, including a genetic learning disability. The mother had made allegations of abuse against the children’s father. The court made a child arrangements order in the mother’s favour and directed no contact occur between the children and their father.
Harrison Engler joined us as a tenant in September 2024 after successfully completing pupillage. He has a mixed practice in civil, family, housing, employment and public law. In celebration of Pro Bono Week, he discusses one of his pro bono cases from the past year.
We are delighted that Madeleine Southey and Harrison Engler are joining us as tenants after completing their pupillage with us. During her pupillage, Madeleine focused primarily on housing, property, probate and commercial law. Harrison accepts instructions in all our practice areas.
Harrison Engler represented a mother, who successfully appealed a District Judge's case management decision about involving the local authority in private law Children Act proceedings (after a section 37 report raised no concerns about her care of the children).
Our family law barristers have joined the Child Abduction Lawyers’ Association pro bono duty advocate rota. Accordingly during the month of September, the scheme’s volunteer duty solicitors will be able to refer relevant cases to us. The CALA duty advocates scheme aims to advise and assist litigants in person in international cases in the High Court. Generally cases involve child abduction.
Pupil barristers, Madeleine Southey and Harrison Engler have accepted offers of tenancy with us. They will join us as tenants in September after completing their pupillages.
Yesterday, a team of our barristers including John Critchley, Emma Godfrey, Rebecca Davies and two pupil barristers Madeleine Southey and Harrison Engler took part in the 10km London Legal Walk . They walked to raise funds for free legal services across London and the South East.
